Inside BHARAT: how one chapter reaches publication

Kathayan Production Desk · 22 August 2026 · 4 min read

Research notes, rights clearance, compliance review and technical readiness — the four gates every BHARAT chapter passes before it is visible.

BHARAT is Kathayan's documentary strand on India's economy, culture and development. Each chapter begins as a research brief: what is being claimed, which sources support it, and what the film can honestly show.

Before an chapter becomes visible on the site it has to clear four recorded sign-offs: rights clearance for every script, music and footage element; an editorial compliance review; technical readiness of the master and its captions; and an administrator approval. Each sign-off is stored, not assumed.

Nothing unlocks on a timer alone. A release date is necessary but never sufficient — if a licence has lapsed or a review is pending, the chapter stays closed and the page says so plainly.
