EDITORIAL POLICY

The standards every documentary, news feature, cultural programme and original story on Kathayan™ is held to before publication.

1. Accuracy and verification

Every factual claim is checked against primary sources, official records, archaeological or archival evidence, peer-reviewed research or on-record interviews before publication. Where evidence is limited or contested, the programme states this plainly and uses cautious language such as “according to some historians” rather than presenting inference as settled fact.

No superlative historical claim should be published without source verification. Claims such as “the world’s first”, “the oldest” or “the largest” are published only when reliable scholarly or official sources support that exact claim. Otherwise we use evidence-based wording, for example “one of the ancient world’s major centres of learning”. Where a claim is disputed, the story identifies it, cites the sources and separates established evidence from interpretation.

2. Fairness and balance

Where a programme makes an adverse allegation about a person or organisation, we make reasonable efforts to obtain their response and to carry it fairly in the same programme or in a clearly linked update.

3. Editorial independence

Editorial decisions are made by the editorial team alone. Commercial, sponsorship or promotional considerations never determine whether a story is published or how it is framed.

4. Right of reply

Any person or organisation featured may request a right of reply by writing to contact@kathayan.in. Reasonable requests are carried prominently on the relevant programme page.

5. Privacy and dignity

Private information, medical details and images of identifiable individuals are used only with consent or a clear public-interest justification. Victims of crime, survivors of abuse and children receive additional protection, including identity masking where appropriate.

6. Responsible reporting

Reporting on communal matters, suicide and self-harm, sexual offences, disasters and ongoing investigations follows restraint, avoids sensationalism and graphic detail, and carries appropriate advisories and helpline information.

7. Sponsored and branded content

Any content produced with financial or material support is clearly labelled as Sponsored, Advertisement, Brand Partnership or Supported By, before playback and on the programme page.

8. Use of AI

Where artificial intelligence is used for research assistance, translation, subtitling, voice-over, restoration or visual reconstruction, this is disclosed on the programme page. AI-generated material is never presented as authentic archival footage, and all AI-assisted output is reviewed by an editor before publication.

9. Corrections

Errors are corrected promptly and transparently in line with our Corrections Policy, with a visible correction note and version history on the affected page.
