Contribute Oral History
Living memory is a source. If you, your family or your community hold first-person accounts connected to the places, crafts and histories Kathayan covers, we would like to record them — with your consent, in your own words.
What we collect
Recorded conversations, written recollections, photographs and documents from people with direct experience of the subjects we research. Oral accounts are treated as testimony: we record who is speaking, when, and in what context, and we say clearly when a published story draws on them.
How to contribute
Use the submission form and choose "Oral history" as the format. Tell us briefly what you remember, the place and period it relates to, and how we can reach you. We will contact you before anything is recorded or published. Guidance on what we can accept is in the submission guidelines.
Your consent and your words
Nothing is published without your explicit permission. You decide whether your name is shown or your account is published anonymously, and you may withdraw consent before publication. Recordings and transcripts are stored carefully and used only for the purpose you agreed to, as set out in our privacy policy.
Verification
First-person accounts are memories, not official records. When we publish one, we label it as testimony and, where possible, place it alongside documentary evidence. Where accounts and records disagree, we present both rather than blending them.
